What Is Perfume?

October 20, 2010

Perfume is one of the oldest words in the world that hasn’t lost its value and status in time. The word perfume comes from the Latin ‘per fumus’, which means “through smoke”. The oldest perfume in the world dates back to more than 4,000 years, and was composed of only herbs, spices, and flowers.

There is no person in this world who hasn’t at least heard about the word Perfume. I am not speaking of those who today cannot imagine their life without their favorite fragrance. Perfume is like our second invisible skin that brightens our days and brings happy memories.

Perfume is a combination of alcohol mixed with fixatives, essential oils or chemical scents that offers people a luxurious accessory and a pleasant smell. Today, we know that perfumes possess less natural ingredients, are cheaper and contain up to 40% of aromatic compounds.

Some types of perfumes with different concentration of aromatic compounds:

  • Perfume Extract (15-40%) aromatic compounds
  • Eau de Parfum or Parfum de Toilette (10-20%) aromatic compounds
  • Eau de Toilette (5-15%) aromatic compounds
  • Eau de Cologne (3-8%) aromatic compounds
  • Splash and After shave (1-3%) aromatic compounds

We, women perceive any fragrance or perfume purchase as an investment in our personality. We are absolutely right! Therefore, both the choice of a perfume and how to wear it must be addressed with the utmost seriousness. Nowadays, the range of perfumes is quite varied in any corner of the world. But remember that a good perfume is quite hard to find, especially the one that will represent your personality. However, there is no need to be sad since every perfume finds its wearer, be it an adventure seeker, passionate, conservative or sensual woman.

Note:

A woman’s perfume tells more about her than her handwriting.”
